HCA Healthcare UK has installed an Elekta Unity MR-Linac at The Harley Street Clinic, giving the group its first such system anywhere in the world and expanding London’s private healthcare offerings through a £15 million upgrade.
The system combines magnetic resonance imaging with a linear accelerator, allowing clinicians to see tumors in real time and adjust treatment during each session instead of depending only on scans taken before therapy starts. The approach may also reduce the number of sessions patients require.
The installation places The Harley Street Clinic among a select group of London providers offering MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy. A multidisciplinary team of oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and radiographers will deliver the treatment across planning and delivery stages.
Dr Elena Moreno Olmedo, a consultant specializing in MR-guided radiotherapy, will lead the service, overseeing treatment sessions and guiding the wider clinical team on planning and delivery.
HCA UK has also joined the international Elekta MR-Linac Consortium, linking its clinicians with a global network of centres working to build evidence-based standards for MR-guided radiotherapy.
William Pressley, CEO at The Harley Street Clinic, said the hospital ranks among the first independent providers in London to offer advanced radiotherapy through the MR-Linac, calling it a milestone for patient care.
