Background:

Valerie Health, a healthcare startup, raised $30 million in Series A funding to grow its platform for medical practices. The round was led by Redpoint Ventures, with angel investors from One Medical, Oscar, Main Street Health, and DoorDash. The company has now raised a total of $39 million.

Founded in 2023 by Peter Shalek and Nitin Joshi, Valerie Health helps reduce the administrative work for independent doctors’ offices. Shalek previously co-founded digital mental health startup Joyable, which was acquired by AbleTo, while Joshi is a cofounder of Uber Health and a former engineering leader at Stripe.

Valerie’s platform automates tasks that typically sit between patients and providers, such as referrals, fax processing, appointment scheduling, and other front-office workflows. Over time, the company plans to expand the system into a more comprehensive solution that manages operational processes from intake to follow-up.

Shalek said the company was built around the idea that software should simplify complex experiences for both patients and providers. He believes the next decade will bring significant changes to how people interact with healthcare systems, particularly in how appointments are scheduled and care is coordinated.

Redpoint Ventures partner Meera Clark said Valerie is building foundational infrastructure for a more proactive and personalized healthcare experience. She highlighted the potential for systems that can understand patient needs in advance, manage appointment changes easily, and help support preventive care based on each person’s health needs and preferences.

Beyond efficiency gains, Shalek said the company’s broader goal is to help close the gap between advanced medical capabilities and everyday patient experiences. He emphasized the need to improve access and coordination so that high-quality care is not limited to only the healthiest or wealthiest patients.

Valerie Health plans to use the new funding to grow its team, deepen product capabilities, and expand adoption among independent physician practices across the U.S.
