Background-

The Royal College of General Practitioners and Active Partnerships National Organisation will host a new national event at RCGP headquarters in Euston Square, London, aimed at strengthening ties between healthcare and the physical activity sector. The gathering, scheduled for 11 November 2026, seeks to turn growing interest in collaboration into practical projects across England.

Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi, RCGP lifestyle and physical activity champion, said professionals across both sectors often show enthusiasm for working together but struggle to find the right contacts and routes into collaboration.

He explained that the event aims to bring Active Partnerships and primary care staff together to move past discussing the benefits of physical activity and start identifying practical steps forward, adding that it creates space to build relationships and develop ideas that local systems can adopt.

The free event centers on workshops, networking and idea generation rather than established evidence around physical activity benefits. Delegates will review examples of successful and unsuccessful projects before working in regional groups to identify potential collaborations. Organizers hope to establish clearer guidance on effective healthcare and physical activity partnerships that can be replicated nationwide.

Movement sessions including Bhangra, walking and running will run throughout the day. Red Whale, the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, seca, Good Boost, We Are Undefeatable and EGYM are supporting the event.

Healthcare professionals are being invited directly, while Active Partnerships will coordinate representation from the physical activity sector across all regions.
