Key Background:

In a dramatic humanitarian rescue effort, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) brought 65 tonnes of life-saving medical equipment to Gaza. It’s a big operation at a time when Gaza’s health crisis deepens, as hospitals become critically short of even basic equipment after sustained violence and destruction of infrastructure.

Relief consignment includes emergency trauma kits, surgical supplies, and medication required. All the above are towards assisting over 45,000 individuals, the majority of whom have been suffering condition, disease, and injury in dire need of urgent medical attention. Under siege, Gaza’s healthcare system has come to a standstill, and the shipment is a blessing.

Airborne from Egyptian El Arish Airport, the relief arrived in Gaza via Rafah border crossing, one of the last open gates. WHO stored the shipment securely and safely, in conformity with international norms for global health as well as regional health medical regulations. The mission illustrates the importance of international help in delivering humanitarian aid to embargoed communities.

The UAE has never been behind offering humanitarian assistance in the face of war-torn areas. The latest delivery is another step in the UAE’s pursuit of health and humanitarian diplomacy. The UAE initiative followed earlier deployments of field hospitals and mobile clinics highlights its focus on relief and access to health in emergencies.

In answer to deteriorating Gaza health conditions, this strategic partnership between WHO and UAE conveys a strong message of global solidarity and quick response. It reinforces the call for ongoing support to vulnerable affected populations suffering from medical and humanitarian crises.
